Finding NSW Court cases

The best ways to locate cases:

  • Look at NSW CaseLaw. NSW Caselaw was developed in 1999 to publish decisions for New South Wales Courts and Tribunals administered by the NSW Department of Justice. You can search by courts such as NSW Supreme Court. The decisions of the court are published and there are also summaries.
  • Read the articles and stories published by Court reporters in NSW. Court reporters working for newspapers such as the Sydney Morning Herald and for radio broadcasters such as ABC Sydney are allowed into the court room to report on what they see and hear. Most journalists also have their own Twitter accounts which they use to inform the public about cases and stories.
  • Read about issues and law on websites and the Issues in Society journals, and make the connections about cases.
  • Please note that cases before the children's courts are difficult to find and this is because of privacy and preventions on media presence.

Information about Issues

You may login to the Oliver Library catalogue, search for and download the PDFs of these resources. Ask Mrs Bale or Mrs Hartley for assistance. All Issues in Society have Australian content and there are useful weblinks in the back. Note the content may not be specific to NSW.
