From hunters to protectors. The Lion Guardians and a story of changing perceptions

§In this article, a traditional African tribe’s customs about lion hunting are altered as they join a conservation group to monitor and preserve lions numbers, as the tribe faces an unprecedented decrease in the population of lions.
§This practice served as both a rite of passage for younger males and as a vehicle to attain an improved status within their community.
§For this tribe, there is a clear shift from performing traditional behaviours
to gaining new understandings of the significance of preservation in terms of their own sustainability.

The skeletal people of Isaac Cordal

Listening to Michael Jackson in Tehran after Azar Nafisi

•This poem presents a clear disconnection between the persona’s cultural setting within a totalitarian society and his attempt to break free from its demands.
•The epiphanic moment of finding out he is not the only one who dares to “listen to Michael Jackson” is humourous yet full of insight.
