The task

Scientific models are used to help explain things or concepts that are not readily visible. Thse models change and debvelop over time. Our ideas about the atom and the composition of matter have changed a lot, and the history of this shows us the interesting ways in which scientific knowldge grows.

1. Choose one of the following pioneers of atomic theory:

Democritus

John Dalton

James Chadwick

Ernest Rutherford

Niels Bohr

J.J. Thompson

2. Put together a multimedia presentation including the following:

a) The scientist's name

b) A picture of the scientist

c) The date their model was proposed

d) A list of brief facts about the scientist

e) A description of the model they proposed

f) A picture of their model

g) A timeline showing a brief history of ideas of the atom and where the model fits

h) A brief discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of their model

i) A comparison with the work of another scientist
